acceleration - definition - mechanics and dynamics

Definition: The time rate of change (derivative) of velocity. The SI unit of acceleration is meters per second per second. Acceleration is a vector quantity.

Also Known As: speeding up, slowing down, brakeing, decceleration, dv/dt

Common Misspellings: accelleration, aceleration, acelleration, acceleration

Examples: If a particle has a speed of 2 m/s and it accelerates forward at a rate of 3 m/s/s, then after one second, its velocity will be 5 m/s and after 10 seconds, its velocity will be 32 m/s.
