angular momentum - definition - ratational motion

Definition: The moment of the linear momentum of a particle about an axis. A quantification of the amount of angular motion of an object. Angular momentum is conserved in the absence of external torques.

The angular momentum of a body, measured relative to some axis, is the moment of inertia (I) about that axis multiplied by the angular velocity of the body.

Also Known As: commonly: L
