dark matter - definition - astronomy and cosmology
Definition: Dark matter is the generic term for the matter in the universe that is not directly observable as it emits no light. Although its presence is inferred from the motion of galaxies, its exact form is controversial. Dark Matter is believed to include MACHOs - Jupiter like objects the fill the galaxies and WIMPS - Exotic particles that have mass but dont otherwise interact strongly with normal matter.
