energy - definition
Definition: The capacity of a physical system to do work. Typically represented by the symbol E. The SI unit for energy is the joule (symbol J). Other common units of energy are the erg and the electron-volt (eV). A system can have energy in a variety of forms, for example: kinetic energy due to its motion, potential energy due to the positions of the components, chemical energy stored in chemicals that can undergo a reaction.
