hydrostatic approximation - definition
Definition: When a fluid is not at rest, the net force on the fluid elements is not always zero. For this to be the case, the pressure in the fluid will not be the exactly the hydrostatic pressure. However, in many cases, it is possible to assume the pressure is the hydrostatic – this is the hydrostatic approximation.
