order of magnitude

Definition: The orger of magnitude of a quantity is the nearest power to ten to that value. The order of magnitude of a scalar quantity is also a scalar and the order of magnitude of a vector quantity is also a vector quantity. The order of magnitude also has the same units and dimensions as the quantity in question.

Examples: The order of magnitude of c, the speed of light at 300000000 m/s is 108.
