electric field - definition - electromagnetism
Definition: Field that exists due to the presence of electric charges that exerts forces on other electric charges. Every charged particle feels a force equal to the field due to all other charges times the charge of the particle (but not its own field). The field due to a single charged particle is proportional to the charge and inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the charge. Electric field is a vector quantity that points in the direction the force on a positively charged particle points.
