velocity

Definition: Symbol v, the time rate of change (time derivative) of displacement of a body. It is speed in a specified direction. Velocity is thus a vector quantity, whereas speed is is a scalar quantity.

Examples: While speed (like 30km/hr) is a scalar, velocity (30km/hr North) is a vector, consisting of a speed and a direction (north).
